PROVINCE OF ARGOLIDA
The Prefecture of Argolida is one of the eastern counties of Peloponnese, ranging throughout the coastlines of the Argolikos Bay. The total area of the prefecture is 2.214 square kilometers and the population, according to the last implemented census in 2001, is amounted to 101.389 inhabitants. 

 

 

 

 


The tourism industry in the county has been very developed, even before the Second World War. The numerous archeological sites existing at the area, just to mention the monuments of the Mycenaean period, the cities of Epidavros and Argos, Nafplio and its medieval historical background, are still of great interest for the whole world

Ancient Theatre of  Epidavros
The Theatre of Asklipieio Epidavros was constructed at the east slope of the Kinortio Mountain by the end of the Classic Period, approximately 340 – 330 B.C., when the sanctuary of Asclepius was under reconstruction at that time and was in service until the 3rd D.C. century. This unique monument, the most perfect and famous theater of ancient Greece, harmonically combining elegance with excellent sound was constructed by Polikleitos (the younger), according to the words of Pausanias, who was also the constructor of the vault at the sanctuary..... click for more
